How long? Well, sir, considering that you deny the existence of the motivating ideology behind such attacks and oversee the shunning in Catholic circles of those who identify it, I’d say indefinitely, insofar as you’re actively hindering proper analysis of this threat.
Besides all that is below, Pope Francis has claimed fancifully that “authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Koran are opposed to every form of violence.” It has become a superdogma in the Catholic Church: if you don’t believe that Islam is a Religion of Peace, you will be ruthlessly harassed and silenced by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and the hierarchy elsewhere as well. The bishops of the Catholic Church are much more concerned that you believe that Islam is a religion of peace than that you believe in, say, the Nicene Creed.
“Leave them; they are blind guides. And if a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.” (Matthew 15:14)
“Pope Francis Condemns Taliban Attack: ‘How Long Must Afghan People Bear Such Inhuman Violence?,’” by Thomas D. Williams, Breitbart, January 28, 2018:
On Sunday, Pope Francis denounced the “terrible terrorist massacre” carried out by Islamic militants of the Taliban in the Afghan capital of Kabul Saturday.
After his usual midday prayer of the Angelus in the Vatican Sunday, the Pope turned to the news of Saturday’s slaughter, addressing the thousands of pilgrims gathered in Saint Peter’s Square.
“Yesterday painful news arrived from Afghanistan telling of the terrible terrorist massacre carried out in the capital city of Kabul leaving nearly one hundred dead and numerous injured,” he said.
“A few days ago, another serious attack also on Kabul had sown terror and death in a large hotel,” he continued. “How long must the Afghan people bear this inhuman violence?”…
Pope Francis caused a media stir in early 2017 when he denied the existence of Islamic terrorism.
“Christian terrorism does not exist, Jewish terrorism does not exist, and Muslim terrorism does not exist. They do not exist,” Francis said in a speech to a world meeting of populist movements in the Vatican last February….
“The poor and the poorer peoples are accused of violence yet, without equal opportunities, the different forms of aggression and conflict will find a fertile terrain for growth and will eventually explode,” he said….
“There are fundamentalist and violent individuals in all peoples and religions—and with intolerant generalizations they become stronger because they feed on hate and xenophobia,” he said.
The pope’s earlier statements suggesting economic roots to terror provoked a strong public reaction from the Islamic State terror group, which insisted that their sole motivation is religious and sanctioned by Allah in the Qur’an.
Pope Francis “has struggled against reality” in his efforts to portray Islam as a religion of peace, declared an article in the ISIS propaganda magazine Dabiq, before going on to urge all Muslims to take up the sword of jihad, the “greatest obligation” of a true Muslim.
Some months before, the Pope Francis appeared to suggest that all religions are equally prone to violence and that Islam and Christianity are fundamentally the same in this regard.
“If I speak of Islamic violence, I must speak of Catholic violence,” Francis said. “And no, not all Muslims are violent, not all Catholics are violent. It is like a fruit salad; there’s everything.”

GI, I agree with you with a short explanation. After 7 years of brutal search, where I asked every question connected with “Why should I believe any of this?” I had an experience that compelled me to accept the presence of God in my life. I still had some questions; and here, not quite 50 years later, am working on several. Fast forward a few months when I was invited to a Presbyterian church, where infant baptism is practiced. Questioning why an infant, who has obviously never sinned needed baptism, I gained the thought that the baptism signified the acceptance of the child into the community. ALL of the congregation stood as the child’s God Parents, with the responsibility to protect and direct the child to good purposes. That teaching has inspired me to this day wherever I am at the moment, “All children are the responsibility of all adults. The parents have the rights (such as they are); the rest of us have the duties.”
Carolyne says
All religions are misogynist and The Catholic Church is no exception. They, too, required that women c9ver their hair until quite recently, I don’t know if the reason is the same as Islam has for requiring the cover your hair rule. Would Catholic priests have gone into a sexual frenzy if they glimpsed a woman’s hair? What is it with religion and women’s hair, anyway?
The Pope says that if the Koran if read “Properly” it is a peaceful religion. I do not know what reading the Koran “Improperly” would be. Nonsense. Perhaps he could explain.

Carolyne–whatever you think of Catholicism–no, priests did not rape women not wearing scarves in church, nor is there anything in Christian scripture telling them to do so.

No one can deny what you’re pointing out, Carolyne, and I completely agree! Now I am not a Catholic, or putting down the Catholic church–because I know that there are a lot of true believers, but there’s no mistaking that you are right in your criticism of ALL religions in this regard.
But the only One I care to defend is Jesus Christ, because He is NOT a misogynist, but He loves women sooo much. And as a Christian it took me a very looong time to understand this truth due to the fact that I’ve witnessed so much disrespect of women within the church! But I also know that the Bible teaches husbands to love their wives and treat them as more important than themselves. That said, just because the Bible teaches this doesn’t mean that husbands and clergy *abuse* what the wives are instructed to do, submit to the husbands. Oh, and believers are to love one another deeply–married, or not.
I digress, because I know the subject in question, here, is about ‘scarves’, but I did want to address your overall criticism of all religions because you are RIGHT, they are guilty of misogyny–absolutely!
At least nowadays it is not a mandatory church requirement for women to cover their heads, but at one time it was much more common within the church, but women were not subjected to punishment or death for not doing so. And I think if I came to church wearing a head scarf I would get some *very* funny looks, lol! No one at my church even wears a hat 🙂
Take care!

Left. . ., I have added my comments to conversations originated by others several times. Good reasons exist for all of us to pitch in when we have something to offer. To me, and it seems to most here who have some measure of mental health and intellectual ability, this is a “free fire zone” of ideas and analysis. Write what you think and help me learn, whether others want to see it or not. Hopefully a lot of others would like to see what you think so they might learn too. None of us, no matter how much time we have spent in classrooms and what kind of experience we have had, and for that matter how much misery we have seen others suffer, know all. The wisest, kindest, most thoughtful man in my life, my Uncle by adoption, had an 8th grade early 1900’s rural Alabama education. His memory still teaches me to this day and every day.
Really off to one side but I think connected. Somewhere in his writing, which book I am not sure at the moment, Rabbi Kushner, author of When Bad Things Happen to Good People, asked the question (paraphrased from memory), “If God is everywhere, why do we bother with going to religious services [any religious services Jewish or other]?” The answer he proposed was that we congregate to exchange with each other the gifts of encouragement, experience and knowledge that God gives each of us, so that all us can benefit. The second highest Mitzvah (good deed/commandment) in Judaism, collected by Maimonides, is based on the passage that “It is not good for man [humans] to be alone.” So anytime one brings people together, friends, spouses, employers/employees, doctors and patients, even lawyers and clients, one is doing one of the highest good deeds people can do to show their gratitude for God’s gift of life. Thank you for you contributions.

Good luck. Please consider professional counseling, legal and otherwise. Champ of what?
Whatever your criticism of me and my writing, there are several lawyers and almost certainly lots of law enforcement people reading if not posting here. Some of them are “friendly” to the purposes of JW and some hostile, just looking for a way to harm the publication and its readers. Advocating on an interstate, and apparently international, “wire” that a police officer commit *under color of state law* a clear civil rights violation with a totally unnecessary and unjustified summary execution in the United States is an embarrassment to JW and all its readers, and a potential crime, (consider inter alia, 18 United States Code Section 1343). There is no telling what an un-friendly law enforcement person could do with this outside the US where the Constitution does not apply, much less what US based authorities could try, example California and current stories about their “thought-police”. Unless I am seriously in error, JW goes outside the United States legal boundaries and may be exposed to other country’s laws. Think about the possibility of being charged with a crime outside of the US and having extradition attempted from the United States on the charge. Even if extradition fails, it would be painful and expensive.
What I have written is in strict compliance with the law where I sit, and the professional duties I have at all times, 24/7/365/life. “A lawyer’s duty of zealous advocacy is limited to an equally solemn duty to uphold the law and the standards of professional conduct.” Nix v. Whiteside, 475 U.S. 157 (1986). I don’t think I have anything to fear if my comments are reviewed. I am certainly in a better position to defend them. Even though I am retired, I have a duty to alert non-lawyers as to their rights and duties, especially here where your comments could easily miss-inform or inspire others into conduct that violated the law and causes great expense and trouble for at least one and potentially many. I would be well satisfied for JW or anyone else to review what both of us have written to see if either of us have violated standards, especially the requirements of the law. From your conduct as written, you appear to me to be a dangerous person and a potential harm to this community.

The Pope is a true commie ,he thinks poverty is the only factor driving war and terror. The common factor is Islam it an ideology that cuts across all economic, racial, education levels, social status like being a Nazi, or a communist . The Pope being a true communist sees everything as a struggler not between good and evil ,but as a struggle only over money between the poor powerless and the rich overlords. He refuses to see another religion that plagiarize many forgot reject myths of Christian ,Jewish, pagans , is at its core a violent ,regressive ,cult that wants to destroy his church and all other faiths outside of Islam. He is the one world Pope a stain on the Roman Catholic church for not defending other Christians and other Faiths against the daily Jihad made in the faith of Islam by the true followers of Mohammed.

CogitoErgoSum says
The Pope should know the answer to his own question of how long. The suffering, whether it be for the Afghan people or for anyone else, will continue until the end of this age, that is, when Christ returns. Has this Pope studied the Bible at all? See Matthew 10:34-36 where Christ says He did not come to bring peace but a sword. Also see John 18:37 where Christ tells Pilate that the reason He (Christ) came into the world was to testify to the truth. He did not say His purpose was to bring peace but rather to bring the truth. Now, the truth is often upsetting to people but it is the way TO peace. So, I I would say to you, Pope Francis, you need to start wielding the sword of truth as you were commanded by your Master ……… then peace will come ………. at a time known only to the Father (see Matthew, chapter 24).
WPM says
The trouble is the Pope as a true communist see the struggle not as good against evil ,but as the poor helpless against the rich overlords. He is a traitor to the true church ,the next Pope will have a lot of work cut out trying to undo all the damage. The truth if keep down will have a very violent birth when it is received by the world. The longer it is suppress the more violent it birth will be. The current Pope is only compounding the damage like many of the world leaders by rejecting that Islam is a violent religion to its very core. But{sarc}come on, let’s be fair to francis;he really, really, loves the poor doesn’t he?
Apparently he sometimes likes to ring up poor people from his fabulous mansion in Rome telling them about his great love for them.
And nobody does a foot wash of a muslim refugee better than francis(….as long as there is a photographer at hand and it is recorded in a blaze of publicity)
francis probably doesn’t get this but…
“So when you give something to a needy person,do not make a big show of it,as the hypocrites do….they do it so that people will praise them”
Matthew 6 v 2
For example, washing the feet of a muslim in a well-photographed publicity stunt that shows the hypocrisy and false piety of francis (who is then praised for his actions)
Meanwhile, francis and his papal show must go on with its heretical teachings, its false piety, its denial of the reality of islam and its defense of pedo-protecting senior clergymen(as we saw recently when francis visited Chile)
An Interesting fact about these public displays of false piety by muslims (or francis) is that according to Jesus Christ it is OFFENSIVE to God:-
“Make certain you do not perform your religious duties in public so that people will see what you do.If you do these things publicly, you will not have any reward from your Father in Heaven”
Matthew 6 v 1
Remember that: the next time you see muslims blocking the streets with their falsely pious devotions. It is hypocrisy and false piety in action and actually condemned by God!
According to Jesus Christ….
Don’t put on a show of loving the poor in a blaze of publicity(because that’s what hypocrites like francis do)
Don’t put on a public show of your religious devotions in a street(because that’s what muslim hypocrites do with their “prayers” to allah)
Carolyne says
FYI, excellent. Of course the Pope makes a show of washing the feet of some Muslim. I don’t think it achieves the result he is going for, i.e. what a humble man he is. To me, it just indicates what a vain man he is and really nothing more than a show-off in a dress. For myself, I wouldn’t wash anyone’s feet, especially those of a Muslim. To the contrary, I think ISLAMISM IS NAKED ISLAM, Islam without a mask and without paint, Islam perfectly consistent and true to itself, an Islam that has the courage and lucidity to go all the way to its ultimate conclusions and final implications.
Islamism is Islam in all its logic and in ALL ITS RIGOR. Islamism is present in Islam as the chick is present in the egg, as the fruit is present in the flower and as the tree is present in the seed.
But what is Islamism?
Islamism is political Islam, the bearer of a project for a model society and whose aim is to establish a THEOCRATIC STATE based on Sharia, the only legitimate law—since it is divine—since it was revealed and enshrined in the Koran and Sunna—it’s a law that applies to everything.
Here is an all-inclusive and all-encompassing project, one that is total, totalizing and TOTALITARIAN.” – Fr. Henri Boulad, SJ

Thanks for that quote, Mortimer. I would note that this is Islam, not “Islamism”–but apart from this he is spot on. If only Pope Francis understood as much.

Wrong the majority were from the Ulster RC underclass but many Irish nationalists were protestants i.e. wolfe tone Charles Stuart Parnell and many others. Their aim waz always political and not the forceful conversion of non-RCs.

Sorry this was in reply to an earlier comment.

“How long must the Afghan people bear this inhuman violence?”

It’s up to them to drain the swamp.
