As all this unfolds, it is useful to remember that some people knew for years about Tariq Ramadan’s behavior.
Bernard Godard, who was the “Monsieur Islam” of the French Ministry of the Interior and knew Ramadan well, said: “That he had many mistresses, that he consulted sites, that girls were brought to the hotel at the end of his lectures, that he invited them to undress, that some resisted and that he could become violent and aggressive, yes, but I have never heard of rapes, I am stunned.”
Why didn’t Godard act, knowing that “some” of the women whom Tariq Ramadan “invited to undress…resisted and that he could become violent and aggressive”? You know the answer: “Monsieur Islam” was afraid of being smeared as an “Islamophobe.” Tariq Ramadan’s entire rise to positions of influence and power can be attributed solely and wholly to his pose as a “Muslim reformer,” and to the Western intelligentsia’s avid desire to showcase such people in order to show that they are not “Islamophobic,” and are on board with the diversity/multiculturalism project. His rise certainly cannot be attributed to his wisdom and insight.
Ramadan is extremely clever and sophisticated, but he is also a pious, believing Muslim. In Islam, it is the woman’s responsibility to cover herself and thereby remove the man’s temptation. If she fails to do so and he sexually assaults or even rapes her, it’s her fault. Moreover, according to Islamic law, a woman’s testimony is not admissible in cases of sexual crime, zina, even if she is the victim. Thus Tariq Ramadan always knew that as far as Islam went, he could deny the charges, and that would be that. And if a woman ever threatened to go to the secular courts, there were ways to deal with that as well, as one of his accusers recounted: “Two years later he called me to a hotel in the suburbs and then threatened me that he had compromising things on me.” It will be interesting to see how he strikes back against this prosecution, and strike back he certainly will.
“Tariq Ramadan handed over to Paris prosecution department,” Al Arabiya, February 2, 2018:
French police have been granted another 48 hours to question Islamic Studies Professor, Tariq Ramadan, and the academic has been handed over to Paris Prosecution department, news reports have revealed.
The British Express newspaper, quoting a judicial source, confirmed on Thursday that Prof Ramadan’s custody had been extended for a further 48 hours in order to give Paris police more time to question the suspect.
Following this period, he should either be freed, formally charged, or made an “assistant witness”, meaning police do not believe he committed an offence, the report revealed.
Ramadan was arrested on Wednesday during a preliminary investigation after two women accused him of rape and sexual assault last October.

Slander complaintThe report said that Prof Ramadan took a leave of absence from Oxford after the allegations came to light but has vehemently denied raping the two women. He has also filed a complaint for slander against feminist author and former Salafist Henda Ayari, who happens to be one of his accusers.
According to the report, Ayari said the sex scandal involving Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein had encouraged her to “name and shame” her alleged abuser and file an official complaint with police.
Another woman who has claimed that she was raped by Ramadan said that they met at a bar in Lyon where he told her that a Maghrebi person – who worked at the reception – knew him.
He invited the woman to his room where she claimed that he slapped and then raped her twice. According to Le Monde newspaper, the woman also claims that she has a mark to prove her version of events. According to her version of the story, she escaped from the room next morning.
Dan Dagen says
come on Robert. having mistresses and even paying for prostitutes is not a jihad story. that is consentual sex between adults. I am not saying he did not commit rape, btw. but sometimes jihad watch is too eager to grasp at straws for a story and it is just not necessary with all the real news the ideology of Islam causes creating havoc and headaches for the rest of the world.carry on. I still read the blog daily.
Robert Spencer says
Dan
Kindly quote me where I said that “having mistresses and even paying for prostitutes” is a “jihad story.” Are you deliberately being obtuse and misrepresenting what I actually wrote?
JW_reader says
Thank you posting the story, Mr, Spencer. I believe, the story very much belong here. Muslims practice taqiyya to further their causes. And Tariq Ramadan is at the forefront of Muslim academics, furthering the cause of Islam in the western world. In fact, his chair at Oxford is paid by Qatar. Else, he will not be teaching anything at Oxford. The chair at Oxford gives him the legitimacy to perpetrate his agenda of Muslim Brotherhood. In fact, he stayed on in his position at Oxford, even after his accusation, as he is a Muslim. This guy is cunning and deceptive and should belong to jail for sure. Thanks again.
Jayell says
“…his chair at Oxford is paid by Qatar…”
Not surprising, I suppose, considering the long tradition of external sponsorship at British and other universities. However, it’s yet more evidence of the infiltration of the muslim world into British life. Quite appalling.
Karen says
Jayell, that is interesting. Qatar also funds that great disinformation machine called Al Jazeera.

I feel, and look like a fool. I did a very lazy and hurried read and did not make it past the first sentence before posting a comment. I ought not do this. I retract my comment and apologize.

I presume you are familiar with the Koran, Dan Dagen?
How, exactly, is JW ‘grasping at straws’ by covering this story?
BC says
Consensual sex does not involve threats and physical abuse. In any case it is haram for a Muslim man to have sex outside of marriage and there is no mention of temporary marriage and divorce here either.
Of course the woman can only claim rape under sharia with (4) four male witnesses. a situation which any person with intelligence knows is well nigh impossible. This individual is a prominent spokesman for the vanilla version of the ROP and also an academic at a top UK university. The French police clearly think
there is a case to answer and RS is quite correct to report on it. The clutching at straws is being done by yourself.

Thanks to Hillary Clinton, during her time as Sec.of State this man was given free ride to re-enter the United States, at least he’s in France on their franc for charges of rape.
StellaSaidSo says
Prior to the State Dept 2009 decision, Ramadan had been denied entry to the US under the Patriot Act.
In his first public appearance in the US following the lifting of the ban, Ramadan took part in a debate on the extent to which Muslims should be accommodated in Western societies. He fell short of saying ‘all the way’, of course. But that’s pretty much what he believes, and everyone knows it – including the French, who have long regarded Ramadan as dangerous and duplicitous.
Michael Copeland says
“Tell the infidels in public we respect your laws and your constitutions, which we Muslims believe that these are as worthless as the paper they are written on.”

Jayell says
Well, the feeling’s mutual, of course, but apparently Ramadan is apparently allowed to voice his obnoxious opinions and the rest of us aren’t.
StellaSaidSo says
Ramadan’s ‘obnoxious opinions’ have not been broadly welcomed. He is not popular in Europe, even among the Left. Prominent French newspapers have refused to publish articles by Ramadan, regarding them as anti-Semitic and inflammatory. Ramadan was fired from his position at Erasmus University in Rotterdam in 2009 when his Islamist sympathies became apparent. An earlier job offer at the University of Leiden was declined by Ramadan following widespread criticism. In 2004 Ramadan was banned from entering the US, a decision which was reversed in 2009 after the Muslim Brotherhood enabler Hillary Clinton became Secretary of State. Ramadan’s position at Oxford gave his utterances a certain authority and credibility, but even in Islam-friendly UK he has been widely criticised. His following among rank-and-file Muslims is patchy, to say the least: genuine reformers recognise that he isn’t one, while devout believers consider him too ‘westernised’. With this latest scandal, Tariq’s goose is pretty much cooked. Even in terms of his asset value to the MB, he appears to have passed his ‘use by’ date.
Jay says
Little doubt Tariq Ramadan has the attitude that non-Muslim women are meant to be the sex slaves of Muslim men. To him his religion gives him divine sanction to commit such behavior.

The story of the Hijab is to not get abused sexually….but they are still are vulnerable since they need witnesses to claim rape….a islamic woman never/ wins in sharia courts since she needs three male witnesses and cannot speak about it due to penalties and may be killed. However as a woman who is not Islamic I know thru my times I am aware some woman are attracted to men of power and during the sexual revolution may have availed themselves to sexual contact by consent and could also use that in the future for blackmail or money or exposure which leads to some power. Since I never read about that reality, predatory woman is also true. Some woman may be surprised and are raped after refusing contact, injured, threatened or killed. This is a story about how difficult it is to prove rape in a sharia compliant country. It is a issue that has many sides but if a woman says no and does not change her mind she is a victim. As a young girl and woman at one time I had advice about predatory men from my mother and luckily it served me. But I don’t doubt many men are used and then later find themselves being blackmailed or smeared. But under sharia you need witnesses and most muslim woman cannot speak. Yet sometimes it seems to be a pile on after the media gets a story with the pile on attorney’s . A difficult situation in all cases. I think this opinion will not be O.K. but there are woman who do target men and visa versa.

Sometimes Islam IS the religion of “piece”. I think the piece has to be unmarried and not Muslim, but apart from that it’s has Allah’s stamp of approval.
StellaSaidSo says
Good question, Jay Boo. I’m guessing…none. On the Left’s scale of privileged victimhood, a Muslim rapist rates higher than any female victim of sexual assault. As we have seen repeatedly in Rotherham, Cologne, Sweden etc. They’re a protected species. Different story if the rapist is white, of course.

Bien!
Lavéritétriomphera says
He’s incarcerated for the moment, but perhaps he could be released on bail.
StellaSaidSo says
Sounds like the police may have more questions for Tariq. If he is not released on bail, there will be a good reason, such as concern about him fleeing the country – which, if he is guilty, is a possibility. There’s bound to be at least one Islamic sh*thole that would take him in, and he probably already has a swag of fake passports.

@StellaSaidSo,
Nobody wants Tarik Ramadan. Muslims are ashamed of him.
