The test of whether or not this vaunted Saudi reform is real will be if they really cut off funding not only for terror groups, but for Muslim Brotherhood mosques and organizations in the United States.
“Trump tells Saudi crown prince US has ‘zero tolerance’ for terrorist funding,” by Steven Nelson, Washington Examiner, March 20, 2018 02:22 PM
President Trump told Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, on Tuesday that the U.S. has “zero tolerance” for terrorism funding, and that he was pleased to see Saudi efforts to stop donations to extremist groups.
“One thing you really have to really focus on is the terrorism threat and the funding of terrorism, whether it’s Saudi Arabia or other countries, as we know there will be no funding, we have zero tolerance for the funding of terrorists,” Trump said at the White House. “I will say Saudi Arabia has been working very hard on that.”
Trump also recalled his visit to Saudi Arabia last year for an anti-terrorism conference.
“We talked about terrorism and the funding of terrorism, and it will not be allowed. It will not be allowed. That would be the one thing that would end the relationship with any country. I think there’s a very big focus on that, the funding of terrorism, meaning it’s over,” Trump said.
Although the two countries are public allies in the fight against the Islamic State, a 2014 memo from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Saudi Arabia and neighboring Qatar “are providing clandestine financial and logistic support to ISIL and other radical Sunni groups in the region,” using another acronym for the terror group.
Prince Salman, 32, consolidated power as the authoritarian U.S. ally’s de facto leader last year with leadership purge premised on allegations of corruption against royal rivals. The prince has pushed an agenda of economic and social reforms, including moving the kingdom to diversify its oil-based economy and allowing women to drive cars.
But Prince Salman also seen as a driving force behind an aggressive Saudi foreign policy, including the nearly three-year intervention in Yemen, where thousands of civilians died in aerial bombings or face starvation. He’s led a coalition of Arab nations to break diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing the small gas-rich nation of funding extremist groups, with demands including the closure of the news network Al Jazeera.
During a Monday background call with reporters, senior administration officials said there would be a wide range of topics discussed between Trump and Prince Salman, whose aging father, King Salman, technically still leads the country.
Topics that Trump intended to discuss, according to officials, included the Yemeni Civil War, the Syrian Civil War, regional adversary Iran, and an ongoing diplomatic feud between Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The official also suggested there would be significant discussion about Russia’s role in the region.
“The president and the crown prince will discuss countering Iran’s destabilizing activities in the region, but also will include Russia’s role in supporting the Assad regime’s atrocities in Syria, Russia’s efforts to protect Iran from us sanctions to hold the [Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps] accountable for facilitating reckless missile attacks against Saudi Arabia and the Emirates, and also facilitating attacks on shipping in the Red Sea,” one senior official said on the Monday call previewing the visit….

I for the first time take a bit of exception to Mr. Spencer’s opinion when he stated, “But Prince Salman also seen as a driving force behind an aggressive Saudi foreign policy, including the nearly three-year intervention in Yemen, where thousands of civilians died in aerial bombings or face starvation. He’s led a coalition of Arab nations to break diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing the small gas-rich nation of funding extremist groups, with demands including the closure of the news network Al Jazeera.” The Saudi’s actions in Yemen have been a lot less ruthless than the actions of the Houthis who have fired missiles into Saudi Arabia and its airport near Ryhad. The Houthis started this civil war and Saudis are simply trying to reinstate the rightful government and to prevent a total Iranian take over. Qatar has not been an exceptional friend to the US either. Just like the old days of the USSR, America must choose who is the lesser of the evil characters in the world and unfortunately Iran is far worse than the Saudis and if Iran obtains a nuclear force with missile delivery system, the Saudis will most likely buy a nuclear arsenal from Pakistan or the US will have to supply a similar system to the Saudis with American hands on the buttons. Thanks to the peanut farmer, the world is in the situation where there are no good answers, just less bad ones.

Ray, the peanut farmer had nothing to do with the Iranian revolution. If anyone should be held responsible for that global catastrophe, it is the Iranian people who elected their government to power, and who deserve the government that they got.
Ray Jarman says
John, I have to respectfully disagree. The mullahs were living in debauchery and planning for the debasement of Iran in France while the Shah was trying to reform Persia. There was so much ire from the likes of the peanut farmer and his zealot of a wife about things such as women’s rights which the Shah was implementing slowly and when American support was removed completely and the mullahs were permitted to return to Tehran, the Shah would have been slaughtered in the streets. I know what I am talking about as I have a very close friend who was one of the Political Foreign Service Officers and one the of members of the Embassy that was held while Carter sat on his behind. I have also met the Regional Security Officer who was also there at the time and he stated the same thing. If unwavering support for the Shah had been provided, there would have been no war with Iraq which led to Saddam’s invasion of Kuwait and the US invasion for the second time after Saddam abrogated the treaty he signed after his first defeat.

Ray Jarman says
Nunyabusiness & John,
I stand by my opinion as 1: One has to return to the not so cold war with the USSR. The election in Iran was about as free as those in Hungary (where the Soviets threw Jan Mazurek from a seventh floor window) or any number of other East European leaders that FDR (assisted by Alger Hiss and Harry Hopkins – both on the Venona List) betrayed at Yalta. President Truman had the back bone to stand with the people of Persia by aiding the Reza Shah to become their leader. During the rule of the Shahs, Iran not only aided the US but ensured that Israel would be supplied with desperately required war, even in times that Israel was attacked by her neighbors. The Soviets wanted to control the navigable water ways of the Middle East and choke Western Europe of needed energy and by controlling Iran, Stalin would have been able to accomplish this.
2. The majority of the Iranian people did not support a theocratic government and they did not vote the mullahs to power. Just like the Germans in 1933, the people of Iran were forced to endure the mullahs since with Carter’s assistance, these thugs who had been living very luxuriously and in debauchery in Paris, were placed in power. Had he continued US support for the Shah, none of the subsequent horrors would have happened. As I have pointed out many times, Saddam would not have went to war with Iran with American presence in Iran. Had he not tried to invade Iran, he would not have felt compelled to steal Kuwaiti oil and invade them which would have precluded the US in the 1st Golf War and later when Saddam abrogated the treaty he signed to end the 1st Golf War, the US would not have had to intervene.
3. There probably would have been no so-called Arab Spring since the governments such as Mubarak would not have been challenged by the Brother Hood and all of the horrors upon the Copts would not have occurred.
Just examine every event that has transpired since the anti-Semitic peanut farmer helped put the mullahs into power.

The photo above rather says it all, to wit, Trump is trying to tell the two others (the one in the background an interpreter?) that terrorism funding must stop (and Trump of course is correct about this) but the look on the Saudi Crown Prince speaks volumes about his duplicity and his overall supremacist thinking and the look on Trump’s face reveals a man who grasps the general content of matters while not having enough specific knowledge to realize in full why the general content is eminently correct.
Ah, John Quincy Adams, where are you when we really need you? Yeah, America is in need of a John Quincy Adams or two (or three or four) and sorely in need also of the John Brennans of America going away forever. Surely.

A Muslim’s opposition to “terrorism” is a sleight of hand used to perpetuate–to the kuffar–the false notion that Islam neither promotes nor tolerates “terrorism”; thereby negating for the most part a need for “believer’s” to publicly express opposition to the real issue: jihad and its place in Islam. IMO, public figures–like our President–perpetuate that charade when they, too, say terrorism rather than jihad.

You’re right, DJT has the instinct, but lacks the details and gravity of the situation. Fools like McMaster aren’t helping (would like to see Bolton replace him). We should all inform the President en masse. He’ll listen if enough of us speak.

Wellington says
Good to hear from you, DT. Yes, Bolton would be a great choice and, yes also, those who really know what Islam intends for us all should regularly contact the President. I’ve already written him to fire McMaster, which hopefully will be sooner rather than later.
Daniel Triplett says
Outstanding. Perhaps your message to POTUS made a difference with McMaster’s favorability. I should send him a similar message. That 3-Star fool is definitely pulling the wagon in the wrong direction.
DJT has been doing a lot of firing. Many think McMaster and Kelly will be next. We need people willing to confront the rising tsunami of Islam, and speak honestly about it.
Ray Jarman says
Daniel, Yes I agree and Bolton would have been my first choice because he knows the infestation on the 6th and 3rd/4th Floors of Main State better than anyone but he would never receive confirmation from the Senate as the likes of McCain and a few other RINOs would never stand up and vote in the affirmative. To prove my point, just look at the President’s pick to be Ambassador to Deutschland, Richard Grenell, whose nomination has been held up by the Senate. The irascible Democrats are beyond the pale and unfortunately I don’t see the American people standing up and voting them out.
Daniel Triplett says
Ray
I don’t think civilian NSA Directors require Senate Confirmation. But since McMaster was a 3-Star, he did require the Senate Confirmation.
I just read this in an article:
” Even though the president can install anyone he wants in the post without getting consent from the Senate, the law requires a confirmation vote for any three- or four-star general. All generals of this rank are appointed to their posts by the president and Senate-confirmed, so a change in post — in this instance from Director of the Army Capabilities Integration Center to national security adviser — ”
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mcmaster-will-need-senate-confirmation-to-serve-as-national-security-adviser/
What I don’t understand though, is how a civilian can hold this position. I read this too:
” The CIA and FBI are civilian agencies. The NSA is not. The NSA director is the commander of the U.S. Cyber Command. Department of Defense Directive 5100.20 states that the NSA Director must always be a U.S. military commissioned officer. Due to the unique reporting structure of the agency, with the exception of the earliest years of the agency and its predecessor, historically this has always been a 3-star (Lieutenant General, or Vice Admiral) depending on what branch of service they come from. Due to the creation of USCYBERCOM, starting with GEN Alexander, this has been a 4-star position (GEN/ADM) and will probably continue to be so in the foreseeable future.
To balance this, the Deputy Director is always a civilian with technical expertise. ”
https://www.quora.com/Why-is-the-NSA-led-by-a-General-when-CIA-and-FBI-have-Directors
I don’t know the answer. You may be right.
I just heard the news that McMaster is officially fired, and Bolton is his replacement. So, I’m guessing they’ve thought this through, and it will work.
Ray Jarman says
Wellington, I think you should read Gatestone Institute (https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/12073/mohammed-bin-salman-visit) where Ahmed Charai discusses the steps already taken by the Saudi prince and because of the struggle against the Muslim Brotherhood, the situation is precarious for the regime. It has taken great steps already that the MSM will not cover because I think that they feel we are too ignorant to understand. Until I read this I possessed the same thoughts as your opine but I see things a little different and hope that Saudi Araba will emerge into a nation where sharia is no longer the governing principle of law. Gatestone Institute is a great website.
Wellington says
Thanks for that link, RJ. Well, I guess hope springs eternal but I am skeptical, though not completely so. If this prince really can do to SA what Ataturk did to Turkey, then there is cause for optimism. I know SA has many unofficial contacts with Israel and that is a good thing to be sure but I’m also reminded of what Menachem Begin said and that is that Saudi Arabia is not a country but a family. Moreover, getting rid of the Muslim Brotherhood, assuming this is possible, will still not be enough. Wahhabism has to go too and the Saudis need to cease funding schools in America (and elsewhere in the West) that teach hatred for the kuffaar. Long way to go.
God, one way or another Islam is such a burden to the world. I like to say it is the turd in the punch bowl of world religions.
Ray Jarman says
Wellington, I agree but it is a first step and remember that when the Shah of Iran tried to bring Persia into the 20th Century he met a lot of opposition which eventually caused his down fall. I just hope that Trump is not replaced by the likes of the peanut farmer.
Wellington says
Agreed, RJ. we need no more peanut farmers as President. But even worse, far worse than a peanut farmer as President, is a rank leftist, a Saul Alinsky disciple, as President, which we already got in BO. One is enough of such kind and America dodged a bullet in not getting a second one in Hillary.
And Deep State remains to this day in revenge mode for Trump winning and not The Bitch (oh gee, is this sexist?; seems most everything is this day). BTW, did you know that John Brennan, that wretched excuse for a CIA Director, voted in 1976 for Gus Hall, the Communist Party candidate for President? I just found this out the other day. As bad as I thought Brennan is, he is, OMG, even worse. Despicable man, confirmed again by his very nasty comment the other day about the Trump Administration firing McCabe, who so deserved to be fired.
Hope you and yours are doing well in an ever increasingly goofy world. Time for a beer.

Because while I was studying what was then the Soviet southern tier, it was Islamic if only by name. And, wanting to spend more time on the beach or otherwise hitting on girls, So while majoring in political science, i.e. the Soviet Union, I gravitated toward the electives in which I could recycle my term papers using the primitive word processing machines of the age.
Islamic studies.

I told him life would be hard enough as a poli sci major, and the religious studies thingy would convince the know-nothings I was a Bible thumper.
Then I joined the Navy in 1987, just after Operation Preying Mantis and not too far after the gulf of Sidra, as an intelligence officer and the Islamic studies portion of my education became the most important part of what I learned at UCSB.

Trump should pressure SA and the emirates to take in the majority of the next wave of migrants/”refugees”. Diversity will do them the world of good.
He should also require them to give religious freedom to their own citizens, including the building of Christian churches. SA govt to be held accountable for safety of non-muslims and churches.
Georg says
Diversity is only sought in countries with populations of European descent; otherwise it is considered colonialism, imperialism, aggression, appropriation, oppression or genocide.
Examples:
Japan takes in less than 10 asylum seekers in 2017 = not racist
Saudi Arabia bankrolls 9/11 financially and ideologically, accepts 0 asylum seekers = not racist
Germany accepts 1.5 million in 2015 alone = racist
LeftisruiningCanada says
Funny how that goes isn’t it.
Georg says
Quite. We’d better pay close attention to demographics as the Marxists sure as hell are. We didn’t force the issue–they did.
Decreasing proportion of people of European (“white”) descent = progress, enrichment
stabilized/increasing proportion of people of European descent = regression, racism
Why it isn’t “racist” to lessen the proportion of Europeans/whites is a hilariously obvious point of subjective view. That the former above is preferable and the latter immoral (think “problem of whiteness”) in our present culture/discourse points to an ideology based in racial hatred and not in law/logic; it is no basis for a civilization/country, but that is what we contend with at present. There is a leftist obsession with hatred and revenge which can simply never be the basis of safe, honest and prosperous society.

I think your single favorite word, Ibrahim, is “evil.” You just love that word, don’t you?
BTW, does it ever dawn on you, whether you are a Muslim (far more likely) or a secular leftist provocateur (certainly less likely but not a possibility to be completely dismissed), that you invariably discredit Islam time and time and time again?
Or perhaps you really hate Islam and are a stalwart for freedom (almost certainly not the case but still within the realm of the highly theoretical) and seek to advance freedom by providing a caricature of the Muslim (which is deuce difficult so many times to differentiate from the reality) in order to discredit Mo’s warped creed.
Hmmm. One of three possibilities, not equally probable of course, but all achieving the same end, to wit, the discrediting of the worst religion, the most despicable religion, the stupidest religion of all time.
So, I say to you, Ibrahim, whatever your motive, keep up the good work. In your own way, you are doing the cause of freedom a good turn.

……………………………..
Where to start? Firstly, Ibrahim itace muhammed has ludicrously caimed before that the devout Saudis are not real Muslims, and that Wahabbism was invented by Western Christians. Of course, this makes no sense–Wahabbism is mainstream Islam, and the West had no presense in 18th century Arabia.
Really, what Ibrahim itace muhammed likely means is that he is upset that his own gang is not in charge of the “Land of the Two Holy Places”.
And his claim that Jihadists are actually Jews is just as absurd–especially given that Ibrahim itace muhammed himself affirmed that Muslims can rob, rape, and slaughter all Infidels who do not submit to Islam.
As for that last, the Hijaz is the western part of Saudi Arabia which encompasses Mecca and Medina. In other words, the US should give things to Saudi Arabia and not expect to be paid for them.
This is *exactly* how Muslims see things–they have the right to rob Infidels, to demand Jizya and “tribute”, and to have to pay ransom for kidnap victims. Muslims see all Infidels as slaves.
As for the United States being an apartheid state, nothing could be more absurd. On my street here in Oakland we have White families, African-Americans, and Asians. We have several Christian families–including a couple known for Gospel music, Jewish people, Buddhists, a famous Wiccan, and quite a few Atheists. We have several houses with lots of young single people, couples, a number of families with children, and retirees. There is absolutely no apartheid here, or anywhere else in the country.

I am still suspicious about the incident in Las Vegas, and the fact that Saudi Arabia is the heart of Islam and the warfare doctrine.I am weary that our President has not all the details about the global islamic movement and the word purge in the FBI is still in effect. If this Prince has no goals to spread Islam and conquer the U.S. he should put a halt to the building of mosques in our country , where the Imans teach the Quran that obligates muslims to darwah, jihad warfare and keeping silent about these verses/commands.The Prince is a charming handsome man and he may want modernization but that is what started the conflicts for Osama bin Ladin, he didn’t. His instincts were correct, the democrats tried to destroy him. but now they will use it against him as they will try to hide the very subversives they the left leaning dems funded and aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood advisors. In Stephen Coughlins book, Catastrophic Failure, Blindflolding America in the Face of Jihad, he talks about his time in threat analysis of our enemy, and found the basic method of threat identification, that is knowing what the enemy says about itself when speaking to each other, and the Islamic Legal doctrine that they follow was not being truthfully explained as it was outsourced to the MB. to interpret which is a similar to having the enemy work against you.and fog your vision so now we have the CVE….. or more currently similar to forcing the signature of a funding bill not all has read. We do know that Saudi Arabia funded many mosques and the educated MB operatives looked good in suits and knew all the right people.
