I am a Canadian ex-Muslim; I converted to Islam and stayed in the religion for approximately four years, before leaving it due to disbelief and moral disgust. Now I live every day with Islam’s formal and informal death penalty for apostasy, hoping that my former Muslim friends don’t recognize me on the street.
In Part 3 of this series of articles (you can see part 1 here and part 2 here), I examine Mubin Shaikh’s response to my assessment of his approach to countering Islamic terrorism. On April 15 2018, Mubin tweeted this in response to my series of articles critiquing his Islamic activism and approach to understanding and preventing Islamic terrorism:
Apparently “JihadWatch” & gang are triggered by my sensible national security & counter terrorism positions. The red flag? I’m Muslim. :p Apparently you have to believe “ISIS = Islam” … ironically, just as ISIS does. Y’know y’all are closet ISIS recruiters right? Tsk Tsk.
The reader will notice that Mubin did not attempt to refute any of the points that I made in the previous two articles of this series. Instead, he
- Belittles Jihad Watch and its followers;
- Promotes himself as being a responsible counter terror expert;
- Plays the “Islamophobia” victimhood card;
- Insinuates that ISIS is un-Islamic, without substantiating this claim;
- Blames people who are critical of Islam for the evils of ISIS.
As I detail in the first two parts of this series, it is ludicrous to discount and/or underestimate the role that the Islamic theological teachings play in inciting and justifying Muslim terrorism. Yet Mubin Shaikh continues to deny that Islamic texts and teachings are in any way responsible for Islamic terrorism.
It may be highly controversial to acknowledge that Islamic theology is responsible for creating Muslim terrorism, and that Islamic theology does indeed justify offensive jihad warfare, but if we fail to acknowledge this reality, we will be rendering ourselves ignorant of manifest facts and exposing ourselves to the many dangers and harms of Islam.
Mubin Shaikh goes so far as to say on his Twitter account on April 21, 2018 that: “*’Radical Islamic Terrorism,’ is an incorrect term which uses the descriptor Islamic, incorrectly. Islamic Costume, is more accurate, still reinforces the point these extremists clearly appeal to Quranic & Prophetic texts.”
The slogan Mubin currently uses in his speeches is: “Terrorism in Islamic Costume.”. Meaning, of course, that he is claiming that Islamic theology in no way justifies terrorism.
This is a false claim. The Islamic texts are filled with exhortations to Muslims to commit acts of terror, unmitigated violence, murder, and rape. Some of these texts and teachings I have documented in the earlier articles of this series, and many others are commonly found in the Islamic source texts (most notably the Quran, hadith and sira). In fact, Islam’s model man, Muhammad, the prophet of Islam, boasted that he was made “victorious with terror.”
Narated By Abu Huraira : Allah’s Apostle said, “I have been sent with the shortest expressions bearing the widest meanings, and I have been made victorious with terror (cast in the hearts of the enemy), and while I was sleeping, the keys of the treasures of the world were brought to me and put in my hand.” Abu Huraira added: Allah’s Apostle has left the world and now you, people, are bringing out those treasures (i.e. the Prophet did not benefit by them). — Sahih Bukhari Volume 4, Book 52, Number 220
Speaking as a knowledgeable and experienced ex-Muslim, I would say that Mubin Shaikh is one of two things:
- a calculated Islamic deceiver following a long term plan and agenda; or
- a semi-literate dupe getting advice from his Islamic supremacist cohorts on what to say to the unwary non-Muslim public.
Due to the fact that Mubin claims to be a Sufi Muslim, and since Sufis are among the most deluded and deceitful of the various Islamic sects, I suspect that he is a bit of both.
To be clear, I am glad that Mubin Shaikh has helped law enforcement officials prevent acts of Muslim terrorism, and that he is in favor of killing ISIS members. But his continual denial that Islamic theological teachings are in any way responsible for Muslim terrorism should give any sober counter-terror analyst cause for concern. Islamic texts and teachings are indeed the root cause of Islamic terrorism and offensive jihad warfare, and we must not shy away from this reality, regardless of the controversy that may arise from such an analysis.

DR. DAVID WOOD HAS AN EXCELLENT BRIEF VIDEO TITLED “WHAT IS TAQIYYA?” As usual, he cites Islam’s core sources to establish his contentions.
Mubin Shaikh (Yeah Bro, I’m talkin’ to YOU) should NOT watch it, because he will become depressed & demotivated, thus deeply angering his fellow deceivers.

Thanks for this article, Saleem.
You did not mention the possibility that the Canadian spy agency (CSIS) is running Mubin as a double agent so that they can use him to smoke out Islamists and also so that he can get information out of terrorists by appealing to the fact he is now an accredited mullah. If he were a double agent, he would be doing what he is doing now.

Yes Mortimer. And the Pope only pretends to be Islamophilic so that he can disarm Muslims before launching the next Crusade.
souare says
Doubtful that the present Pope could do such. LOL. Recall Stalin who asked in 1935 “And how many divisions does the Pope have?”
But the Arabs who slaughtered their way through West Asia and beyond killing, stealing lands, raping, etc. must have their land seizures reversed.
The British, French, Germans, etc. all had their imperialistic holdings seized back–under the guise of decolonization. The Arabs should also their land holdings gained through Arab military Imperialism seized and de-Arabized in terms of Islam and Arabic.
The “Arab World” is the fruit of Arab military and cultural Imperialism. Spain did its bit in 1492–driving Islam out of Spain, and Israel is now also carrying on that tradition.

“I am a Canadian ex-Muslim; I converted to Islam and stayed in the religion for approximately four years, before leaving it due to disbelief and moral disgust.”
This is par for the course for most converts. Muslims themselves, and the converts in question, admit that most leave the faith in a short space of time:

Claims about Islam growing due to conversion have always been a myth, and remain so. In fact Islam only survives and “grows” by creating myths about itself:

The stat I had read and heard was 75% within the first two years.
Anyhow, nothing is easier than getting a Mohammadan to apostatize. Most Mohammadans know next to nothing about their religion and their texts; they are born into the religion. To get them to leave, all you need to do is to get them to read their holy texts (Koran and Sunnah) translated into their first language. (The Sunnah is a bit tough, since there are so many books – but an unvarnished biography of Mohammad will do. You can also get compendiums of the Sunnah. Dr Bill Warner sells digests of the Mohammadan holy book translated to several languages)
Voila, a done deal. Even before they are finished reading, they are asking themselves uncomfortable questions. If they are even the slightest bit modern in their mores (as opposed to those of seventh century Arabia), these questions will not go away. In most cases you will have an apostatized Mohammadan.
souare says
But most don’t have the time or ability–most are practically illiterate– to read the texts of Islam. All they know are the prayers, their Imams in the mosques, Ramadan and the different Eids. Nothing else.
Their biggest dream is to travel over to Saudi Arabia to genuflect before their Arab Imperial masters. They call that the Hajj and they just love the title conferred for that bit of slavish stupidity.
Think of all the good money wasted every year on that besotted junket.

I’m not talking about the masses that live in the Dar al Islam. They are where they need to be. I am addressing those who are here in the Dar al Harb.

The idea that Muslims know nothing about Islam is mistaken, though. That Muslims are so often waging violent Jihad against us proves that, I’m afraid.

I saw Mubin before on CBC canada and wondered about him. Heard he had helped catch terrorists before an attack could happen. Now I wonder more.if he said Islam is religion of peace.here. It seems like he’s diabolical in what he believes and what he does to catch terrosits. Am sure Gov;t giving him important advisory role to GovT. The way he was talking on TV which was after Trudeau got in I believe is he fits well with Trudeau Gov’t. and anyone that does is suspect.

he has changed his tune after Trump was elected in order to keep the invites coming from all the US government agencies. It’s a business to him and I guess it puts pressure on the university to give him a PhD for very little academic work.
When he talks to FBI or CIA or military agents he is not well received. They see right through him. The Muslims in the audience also dislike him because they also see right through him. He is skating on this ice and he knows it. That’s why he has become very unaggressive.
He lacks the charm of Tawfik Hamid or the intelligence of Muhammad al-Hussaini, but curiously gets more invites than either of them.
mortimer says
Token Muslim that they call when someone more important is unavailable. All mullahs are professional liars … they dissemble the textual problems, moral and historical problems that make Islam an impossible claptrap of contradictions.
Mark Swan says
Just because someone does not display openly what they
have to base their beliefs on…does not mean they will not, at the
very least be empathetic with others who act on it.
These moderate Muslims seem to exist, so We observe this,
do We feel anyone who can read and has read the Quran
and is ok with it, can be something other than Muslim.
Do We expect anyone who is not a Muslim, but has read the
Quran, to understand, how someone who knows what is in the
Quran, can keep Saying they are Muslim.
In this age of Islam spreading aggressively, are we going to hope
moderate Muslims, can water down the very essence of Islam which
is about control plane and simple…are we to think the big players
in this are naive and vulnerable, or maybe ok with this—what.
They have been building-up to this time for many decades…they can
work any system better than its originators, they are very effective.
This is a supremacist Ideology…do We expect them to accept equality.
All their ingenuous determined efforts are very real and very wide-spread.
Do We feel these Muslim folks just need a clear view of
the good life, and when they realize how wonderful a good life
Is, these beliefs, based on the Quran will just go away.
The rest of this world cannot be on hold…how long do We have to give Them to make this reformation, after many centuries of the exact same belief.
Should the words good and Muslim be used together…read the Quran.
Do these exist…if so, let them cast off this hate group membership.
Let them join the free World and help…that is what they could do.
Many beliefs are part of humanity…yet humanity can not accept the Quran.
Whom then do we liken the Muslim Brotherhood to be.
Many have considered them Moderate Muslims.
They are not.
Recall, from the Muslim Brotherhood Explanatory Memorandum:
“The process of settlement is a ‘Civilization-Jihadist Process’ with all the word means. The Ikhwan [Muslim Brotherhood] must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and “sabotaging” its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”
