The prelate declares that the Surabaya attacks “are not a religious problem, but mainly concern the existence of the unified Republic of Indonesia (Nkri)”.
In saying that these jihad attacks are “not a religious problem,” Archbishop Ignatius Suharyo of Jakarta is following the line of Pope Francis, who has said that “Muslim terrorism does not exist.” Even a clear act of Islamic terror — jihad suicide bombings at churches — is given an alternative explanation.
Back in 2013, Jihad Watch reported about Suharyo’s desired interfaith outreach in Indonesia that resulted in Muslims throwing Molotov cocktails at a Catholic school.
The archbishop also said that jihadists’ “planning and implementing a suicide attack by taking their children with them is a new form of violence,” although it really isn’t. Jihadi adults have long been known to train their children to be jihadists. Child jihadists were a feature of the Islamic State, and in the Palestinian territories there is a jihad camp for children. The archbishop is deluding himself and in denial both about this and about the motivating ideology behind the attacks.
The thought of any parents taking their children on a murder spree is monstrous, but jihadis who do so believe they are justified, for they are following the dictates of their religious texts.
“Jakarta archbishop decries jihad families as new form of violence,” Catholic World News, May 15, 2018:
Following attacks on 3 Indonesian churches, the archbishop of Jakarta (the nation’s capital) said that “planning and implementing a suicide attack by taking their children with them is a new [form] of violence.” The ultimate target of the attack, he added, was a pluralist Indonesia in which members of different religions have a place…….
“Archbishop of Jakarta decries jihad families as new form of violence”, by Mathias Hariyadi, Asia News, May 15, 2018:
A husband, wife and their four children have sown death in three churches in the city. The mother and her two daughters, aged nine and 12, carried out the suicide mission at the Christian Church of Indonesia (Gki). Another family blew itself up preparing bombs; another committed suicide at a police station. Abp. Suharyo: “The real objective of terrorists is to strike unified and pluralist Indonesia”. Amazement and indignation among the family members of the mastermind of the attacks.
The terrorists belonged to a single terrorist family. The father, Dita Oeprianto, is the Pentecostal Church bomber (Gpps), while the two teenage sons carried out the attack on the Catholic church of Saint Mary Immaculate (Smtb), aboard a motorcycle. The mother and her two small daughters, aged nine and 12, carried out the suicide attack at the Christian Church of Indonesia (Gki).
“I am convinced – says Msgr. Suharyo – that the two young daughters had no idea what would happen. This is incomprehensible and I think this kind of thing should never happen again, clouding our humanity “. The prelate declares that the Surabaya attacks “are not a religious problem, but mainly concern the existence of the unified Republic of Indonesia (Nkri)”.
Not only Christians, but also security forces agents have been targeted by terrorists. “It has always been the police who destroyed their plans and discovered their plots. For this reason, the agents are in their sights, “reiterates the Archbishop of Jakarta……

The Archbishop has a completely different mindset than that of those who oppose him. In his mind life is a precious gift but to certain others life is more of a burden than a gift. It should be used up as soon as possible and becoming a shahid is the best way to give some value to a burdensome, worthless gift. Being a child or adult makes no difference. The woman in the video explains:

Every foreign diplomat from a non-Muslim country – especially western countries – and every non-Islamic *journalist*, from a non-Islamic country, who turns up in Israel, should be made to watch that video, suitably translated and subtitled so that they can undetstand it.
Make them watch it several times.
*then* give them the relevant pages of the Quran, Sira and Hadiths that have to do with mohammedan supremacism, jihad, and adoration of Thanatos.
And then ask them sweetly … would you like this woman – and the hundreds, thousands, *millions* who have been brainwashed into this Death Cult, just like she has – to have access to nuclear, chemical or biological weapons? Do you want them to rule the world?
Guy Forester says
His own statement that a pluralist Indonesia is the target contradicts the idea that this is not a religious problem. All one needs to do is know who the attackers were, what group they represent, and who the targets were. I suspect that he said what he did to keep his own head on his shoulders. Not that his statement makes any difference. He is still a target of these so called holy warriors.
b.a. freeman says
Guy, i also believe that he said that only to defer attacks on his flock. as U said, the evil vermin of islam will not stay their hand, and will be attacking again, and soon.

Precisely.
He doesn’t *dare* say a word against Islam, Islam, Islam.

It truly does seem as though the Catholic Church has lost its courage. There is no doubt that this would not go under reported if Pope John Paul II were still alive. He would have sent emissaries to comfort the families of the victims. It is disgraceful how this coward living his plush life style at Vatican City shrugs off the terror against the lowliest of the church.
Larry Yarger says
In 1965, in the Vatican II statements, there was published a statement called, “Nostra Aetate” in which was declared that because Muslims worship 1 God, love Jesus (even though as just a prophet) venerate Mary, give alms, pray and fast (all tradition oriented and works righteousness) that Muslims are to be considered the same as Catholics, and NOT to be discriminated against.
“But the plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place among whom are the Muslims: these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day.” (Vatican II, Lumen Gentium 16, 11-21-1964)

This guy is not delusional, he is, like the Dope of a Pope, an appeaser.
Churchill said “An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.”
This guy will be consumed, just as the Dope Pope will be, but only after they have completely sold out their flock to the Islamists.
b.a. freeman says
actually, Tom, this guy may be trying to protect his flock. as U, mr. churchill, and other have all noted, however, abasing oneself will not protect a dhimmi in the end.
tim gallagher says
When I read this report, I immediately thought what you have said, b.a. freeman. If you are stuck in a Muslim country like Indonesia, you probably would be too scared to tell the truth. And, as you say, he would be also trying to protect his flock, not just himself. It is different to the appalling comments that the Pope, who is well protected and secure, keeps making that refuse to tell the truth about evil Islam. If people are stuck in some vile Muslim country, if they want to stay alive (and they are helpless, being in a minority and under constant threat) they probably have to lie and make the right kinds of comments. I feel sorry for all non-Muslims stuck in Muslim countries. They’re all in a precarious situation. We need to keep Muslims out of our civilised, non-Muslim countries.

Malcolm (South Afric) says
Being a Catholic there is no doubt personally, that the present hierarchy know the link between Islam and violence. There are priest, bishops, laity who readily, not only say so, but are experts in the historical knowledge of Islam.
“We must choose our language to thwart the enemy’s strategy. “Obama used the word narrative seven times in the two speeches. I will leave the link below.
Why does Francis pick a political correct version of Islam that Obama, Bush, have used?
The point here is: that in Catholicism, we do not follow Caesar in what is not true or unjust or give to Caesar what belongs to God. God is truth and we cannot deviate from it.

b.a. freeman says
yowie.
Malcolm, mr. saletan, the author of the article to which U linked, actually believes that IS, al qaeda, al shabab, and the like are cherry-picking their texts. they are not. islam is a vile, poisonous, criminal cult, one of arab supremacy, racism, slavery, sexual debauchery, child and wife abuse, and hatred of non-muslims. IS are asking “WWMD?” (What Would Muhammed Do?) and following his example, not cherry-picking exceptions; the people who say that islam is a religion of peace are the ones who cherry-pick.
mr. saletan needs to actually read the islamic scriptures, not accept what the local imam says. islam started out peacefully enough, although muhammed, its inventor, continued to harangue his tribe for 13 years before they finally grew tired of his fiery sermons against them and drove him away. his new ansari believers were apparently caravan raiders, and muhammed, taking 20% of the booty (the word that translators of the quran and sunnah used), wanted the good times to keep on rolling, so his “revelations” changed. somebody called him on it, so in quran 2:106, allah says that if he says something different, it is either similar or *better* than the original revelation. naturally, the ulema over the years decided that the latest of conflicting revelations stands, and all the revelations from caravan-robbing, slave-taking, kidnap-victim raping, etc., days are the ones that muslims must follow. muhammed, who enslaved women and children after murdering their husbands and fathers, dealt in slaves, and “married” a 6-year-old little girl, consummating the “marriage” when she was 9. this was relatively common at the time, but the problem is that muhammed is considered the *PERFECT* man, and the model for every muslim (or muslim male, anyway, since women are property) to emulate, so in the muslim world, it is *NOT* *POSSIBLE* for child marriage to ever go away. furthermore, slavery, mass murder of non-muslims (who can be anybody, even people who have said the shahada and claim to be muslim), because they were practiced by this psychopath, will also never go away. emulating him is central to islam, so the cult can never be reformed without changing so much that no muslim would agree to the changes. the only muslims who would agree to them already either know little, or care little (or both) about the religion itself, and have adapted western attitudes. sadly, muhammed called such people hypocrites, said that they were worse then kuffar, and ordered their death.
finally, U said to look at #3 (“We must choose our language to thwart the enemy’s strategy”). this would only work if islam were really peaceful. mr. saletan goes on to say in #4 (“The links between Islam and terrorism are partial, manufactured, and severable”) that IS et al. “aren’t inherently grounded in Islamic theology.” here he is *dead* wrong. mr. saletan does not quote any islamic scriptures to prove his point, so i must assume that either he didn’t bother looking for himself (a breathtakingly stupid and lazy approach to both journalism and blogging), or he has looked, *knows* that islam is vile, and does not care, in which case he is a traitor to civilization.
i am speaking of islam as somebody who has read some from translations of the quran, the sunnah, and “the reliance of the traveler,” a highly-respected manual of fiqh. the claim by muslims that only arabic versions of the same can be truly understood is utter bulls**t; a human language is a human language, and although concepts are often, if not usually, expressed differently in different languages, the *meaning* of a text can be expressed in any language. if this is not true, then nobody who speaks any language could ever learn to speak any other language. pious muslims just want to keep we kuffar in the dark, because their supremacist, racist, vile cult commands them to attack us, and the longer we do nothing, the better their chances of subjugating us. don’t take my word for it, however, and make the same mistake that mr. saletan makes; look at islamic scripture yourself. U don’t know me, and as far as U know, i could be lying. the quran is readily available in english, as are the 6 main hadith collections and the “sirat rasul allah,” ibn ishaq’s lost biography of muhammed (constructed from a hadith collection), preserved in recensions written by ibn hisham and al-tabari. furthermore, i suggest that U read some histories of islamic expansion. if i am lying, U will then be able to refute my arguments by quoting from the source documents. is not truth the best argument?
Malcolm (South Afric) says
b a Freeman, really, my impressions have always been that Islam is an Evil entity, the media and politicians and some clergy are using the same hand book that is far from reality to the corpus of real data, that is readily available.

“Bombing of churches is not a religious problem”?
Indeed. The only problem they face is to have such leaders is this Archbishop of Jakarta (and others) who foolishly think that they can safely play the ostrich game and survive in dhimmitude under ruthless dictates of constantly growing cancerous sharia.

Christ said, “You will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free.” Freedom from the fear of evil and even fear of death. Freedom to live as one who knows God and His Kindness, and His promises. Freedom to speak the Truth and know the reward that comes.
Someone like this guy, claiming to be a ‘shepherd to the flock’ should speak the Truth.
Perhaps he is only pretending and doesn’t know the Truth. He is voluntarily enslaving himself, and those who follow his lead, to the beast of islam. By not speaking the Truth, he is giving up the freedoms that God offers.
moslims are determined to terrorize citizens into submission, or to get the governments to force submission to the beast they worship.

I believe his words are meant for the Muslims, not Christians.
Although whether the Christians realise this is unclear.
The wise Christians would obviously know the truth that Islam is the inspiration for the attacks.
Matthieu Baudin says
“…The archbishop is deluding himself and in denial…”
Perhaps, but keep in mind that Christian Indonesians live in survival mode. It looks increasingly likely that the only national institution within Indonesia that is able and willing to protect religious minorities is the Military. Responsibility for law and order in this realm may therefore default to military protection for persecuted civilians and a determined effort to root out the active terrorist cells and rogue mosques.
