New in PJ Media:
Remember Chris Christie? He thinks you do. He even thinks you want to. Christie spoke in New Hampshire on Monday, and you know what that means. The former New Jersey governor thinks he will be the one Republican presidential hopeful to take down Donald Trump in 2024 and ride to the White House in a blaze of glory (if not on a milk-white steed, as finding one that could hold him would be nigh impossible), amid hosannas from a grateful nation that is finally saved as Christie slays the twin dragons of America-First Trumpism and Old Joe Biden’s America-Last socialist internationalism. If you doubt that this is going to happen, that’s only because it isn’t, but nonetheless, up in the Granite State on Monday, Christie was really throwing his weight around.
Christie based his claim that he could beat Trump on the one successful moment of his brief and disastrous 2016 presidential campaign, when he humiliated and mocked Marco Rubio for repeating some campaign patter he had memorized. As a flustered Rubio struggled to get his bearings and kept repeating the same words, Christie taunted him, saying: “There it is — the memorized 25-second speech.”
This nasty exchange, in which Christie appeared more as a bully than as anything else, was supposed to give us the idea that it was wrong for presidential candidates to have memorized any statements (why?) and that Christie himself was a plain-spoken straight shooter who never, ever doled out any canned answers himself (unlikely). Rubio did indeed come off as stiff, unnatural, and overly reliant upon his prepared material rather than daring to think on his feet, but Christie is kidding himself if he thinks the incident made him look statesmanlike or presidential. It was no coincidence that his purposeless, passionless, aimless and self-serving presidential campaign ended a week later.
Nowadays, however, Christie thinks that berating and ridiculing Marco Rubio seven years ago shows that he has what it takes. On Monday, he declared: “You better have somebody on that stage who can do to [Trump] what I did to Marco, because that’s the only thing that’s going to defeat Donald Trump And that means you have to be fearless, because he will come back and right at you.” He apparently did not remind the audience that Trump was among the candidates also in 2016, and Christie didn’t ever seize the opportunity do to him what he did to Rubio.

I do agree about Trump, and after watching Trump’s pathetic interview on Hannity’s program this week…..

I would think that President Trump has learnt his lessons from the last time, and would do a better job screening his officials, be it campaign or government. Also, thankfully, Jaranka won’t be working for him this time, playing a role similar to what Maria Shriver played w/ Gov Schwarzenegger
On DeSantis, I do think that President Trump is guilty of sophistry when he describes him as being a follower of Paul Ryan. On the contrary, DeSantis was a member of the Freedom Caucus, and was more aligned w/ Jim Jordan and Mark Meadows. I don’t think Trump is doing wisely by attacking him even before he’s announced: all he’s done has been to damage the relationship. DeSantis has already said that he’d rather not serve in a Trump administration
All that said though, I don’t agree that DeSantis is the right candidate for 2024. On foreign policy, he told Tucker Carlson last week that it’s a disastrous policy to allow Russia and China to align w/ each other, which is what we’ve done over the last 7 years. But a few days later, he turns around and launches into Vladimir Putin. Just shows that he’s one of those neo-Lib/neo-Cons, who’s not much different from the likes of Nikki Haley, John Bolton and even Chris Christie, who said that the US should take on both Russia and China simultaneously
I’m still rooting for Trump, and hope to vote for him again. However, if they succeed in sabotaging his run in the primary, my next choice is Vivek Ramaswamy, who understands the Woke Capitalism movement completely, and is battling it. He has also promised to repeal affirmative action, which was always a presidential decree never repealed by any president – (D) or (R). And on foreign policy, he’s stated that the more weapons we pour into Ukraine, the fewer weapons we have to defend Taiwan, and that the longer this war continues, the greater the Chinese edge over the US. If Trump weren’t the candidate, he’d be my first choice
As for the candidates running against Trump, you already have Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, already declared, and on top of that, Mike Pence is likely to run, as is Christie. Also, Larry Elder did indicate when he lost the California recall that he’d run for president, although I have no idea whether he’s changed his plans. Regardless, I don’t think states will be cancelling their primaries the way they did in 2020
The GOP should ideally have a straight race b/w Trump and Pence. Both can claim credit for anything in the previous administration, while Pence can posture as the establishment favorite, tough on Russia, w/ the Dems on Jan 6th and so on. All those Marquis of Queensbury voters who hated Trump’s mannerisms can vote for him, as can all the fans of everybody from Liz Cheney to John Bolton to Susan Collins to Ben Sass. Others can vote for Trump

I will vote for Trump, i feel he is the only person that can fix this country. I like DeSantis is a good guy but he doesn’t have a record for this country.

I think DeSantis will have a real record once he completes this term. In 2028, he’ll have a real record to run on, and Trump won’t be eligible for re-election any more. Or if he is, he’d be as old as Biden is now
Right now, Trump is my first choice, but failing that, Ramaswamy rather than DeSantis is my second

Chris Christie was one of those candidates polled by Tucker Carlson on what his Ukraine policy would be. Instead of saying that we should prioritize China over Russia, he stated that we should wage a war against both of them and win. Shows someone who’s either not serious, or off his meds
