The temporary three-year visas are for “relatives of Canadian citizens and permanent residents.” Immigration Minister Marc Miller specified that this referred to “immediate family members such as: ‘common-law partner, siblings, grandchildren, and grandparents.’” While this is an improvement from welcoming voluntary migration of large numbers of Gazans, as most people initially thought the Trudeau government planned to do, there are still concerns that should be considered.
Chief among these is the first question that should be asked about the new arrivals: Do they support Hamas terrorists? The secondary concern stems from the fact that in Canada, the new arrivals may apply to become permanent residents under the “Canadian Experience Class.” So chances are that their stay won’t be temporary at all. Then, once someone has become a permanent resident, there is the multiplier effect that can expand the number of new arrivals beyond the initial requirement that they be “immediate family members.” That is, a spouse’s sibling can come, and that person’s spouse, and other siblings, as well as the children and grandchildren of those siblings, and so on.
“Canada denies support for voluntary Palestinian migration amid Israeli media claims,” by Serife Cetin, Anadolu News Agency, December 30, 2023:
Canada denied reports that claimed Immigration Minister Marc Miller supported the voluntary migration of Palestinians to Canada during contacts in Israel.
Communication Advisor at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Jeffrey MacDonald told Anadolu that Canada is working with partners in the region to facilitate the evacuation of its citizens.
He said Canada will launch a special program for citizens with relatives in Gaza and will issue temporary visas within that framework.
He noted that the government would prioritize the evaluation of existing applications from Palestinians with family ties to Canada.
MacDonald emphasized that reports in the Israeli media regarding Miller’s possible support for the voluntary migration of Palestinians to Canada during contacts in Israel are false.
And he highlighted the difficulties of leaving Gaza and emphasized that those who manage to leave must meet all entry and eligibility criteria to come to Canada….

While legal immigration from one place to another is a welcome I would be concerned about encouraging new immigrants who espouse hatred for my country, culture, and people – and have no interest in assimilation with existing laws and people.

Immigration is no longer what it was even in the 90s, when I came to the US. Since 2000, assimilation is no longer expected of immigrants. Which is why, in both government & private offices, one sees multilingual signs and notices – not just in Spanish, but other languages like Vietnamese, Hindi, Arabic, Urdu, et al
Here is a hint to any immigrant anywhere: if you think the language of a country would be a barrier, don’t go there

Yes.
Andrew “Dice” Clay said the same thing – using more colorful language…

I read somewhere that Canada now has a housing shortage thanks to all those migrants. Do those in power even bother factoring that in, and what it will do to home prices, when demand so overwhelms supply? They’re crashing the economy all on their own!

There are a few factors
Immigration
The Feds wanted them to be more smore spread out but 80% are going to the GTA-Ottawa-Montreal
Migration
There has been a huge increase in migration for the most nom immigrants leaving Ontario and Quebec in big numbers.
International students
The international student population in Canada is out of control.
Seasonal Workers
Right now they don’t put much strain on housing as most are housed on farms etc. However there is a push to change that as they want to be be housed in housing not on the farms.

When my grandfather’s family came to America, they had to have sponsors. A friend’s family came after WW2, and they had to have sponsors. They all had grueling ordeals, but they came legally.
What I see now is infuriating and unfair, to say the least.
