New York Senator Chuck Schumer has not hesitated to hector an ally in the middle of that ally’s war to survive: “Schumer: Netanyahu a major obstacle for peace, Israel must hold elections,” by Hannah Sarisohn, Jerusalem Post, March 14, 2024:
“I have known Prime Minister Netanyahu for a very long time. While we have vehemently disagreed on many occasions, I will always respect his extraordinary bravery for Israel on the battlefield as a younger man. I believe in his heart, he has his highest priority as is the security of Israel, Schumer said. “However, I also believe Prime Minister Netanyahu has lost his way by allowing his political survival to take precedence over the best interests of Israel,” Schumer said.
“A new election is the only way to allow for a healthy and open decision-making process about the future of Israel at a time when so many Israelis have lost their confidence in the vision and direction of their government, Schumer said.
So Netanyahu has “lost his way”? From this distance, it looks like Prime Minister Netanyahu has capably led his nation in war, has given the IDF his full support as it has been systematically dismantling Hamas — killing 15,000 of its operatives, and seizing huge amounts of weapons, destroying hundreds of miles of tunnels and thousands of tunnel entries, so that now it has been largely reduced to four intact battalions in Rafah. He has repeatedly insisted that he will not allow anyone to stop Israel from completing its mission Imagine the pressure the Bidenites — and now Schumer — are putting on him, but he has proven himself a formidable defender of his people and his country, and will not be swayed by the scolding likes of Chuck Schumer.
“As a democracy, Israel has the right to choose its own leaders, and we should let the chips fall where they may. But the important thing is that Israelis are given a choice. There needs to be a fresh debate about the future of Israel after October 7,” Schumer said. “In my opinion, that is best accomplished by holding an election.”
If Netanyahu’s current coalition remains in power after the war against Hamas and continues to pursue dangerous and inflammatory policies that test existing US standards for assistance, then the US will have no choice but to play a more active role in shaping Israel’s policy by using its leverage to change the present course, Schumer said.
This is a threat by Schumer, that the U.S. may have to rethink its military assistance to Israel if, once Hamas is destroyed, Israel “continues to pursue dangerous and inflammatory policies.” What “dangerous and inflammatory policies” has Israel been pursuing that Schumer is fearful it will “continue”? Was taking the fight to Hamas in Gaza “dangerous and inflammatory”? Is the willingness of the IDF to fire back when Hezbollah launches rockets into Israeli towns in the northern Galilee “dangerous and inflammatory”? If Israel gets into a major conflict with Hezbollah if it continues to launch so many rockets into the Galilee, would that be “a dangerous and inflammatory” policy? What exactly would Schumer have Israel do differently to silence Hezbollah’s attacks?
“The United States’ bond with Israel is unbreakable. But if extremists continue to unduly influence Israeli policy, then the administration should use the tools at its disposal to make sure our support for Israel is aligned with our broader goal of achieving long-term peace and stability in the region,” Schumer added.
The only way to achieve “long-term peace and stability” is not through what is called a “two-state solution,” but rather, through deterrence, the same strategy of deterrence that kept the peace between America and Russia during the Cold War. If Israel can respond to enemy atrocities inflicted on its citizens as it is now doing, so successfully, with Hamas, and shows itself prepared, if need be, to do the same quite soon with Hezbollah if the Lebanese group continues to launch rockets into Israel, it will survive. As long as Israel is more powerful militarily than its enemies, and obviously so, after what they have seen Israel do to Hamas in Gaza, it will avoid a major war. But the jihad impulse, about which Schumer is clearly unaware, will remain.

chuckie…threatening the Supreme Court Justices… schumer is a meddling, busy-body, know-it-all, idiot. He has not been a good *leader* for the U.S. but sees himself as an expert on what Israel should do.
schumer is an ugly, inside and out, jerk. “sowing the wind” as he “grabs the ears of a dog.”

“…support for Israel is aligned with our broader goal of achieving long-term peace and stability in the region,”
The only way to achieve peace and stability in the region is to wipe Hamas from the face of the earth.

Yes, and there are other less-publicized jihad groups in Gaza that also need to go.

Schumer has “released the whirlwind” again – the same foul wind that comes from his butt comes from his mouth.

If we’re gonna so brazenly interfere in Israeli politics, w/ what face do we protest supposed Russian interference in ours?
James Lincoln says
Does Cryin’ Chuck say crazy things just to aggravate normal people?
Sammy says
These are the same people who held such a song and dance about Russia interfering in their election! Apparently it’s all right for them to do it!
These people are unbelievably EVIL.
The Bugs says
Not that I ever would, but some would probably be inclined to say that Schumer is on the take.

On the other hand nobody can say that old chucky has ever deviated from his leftist anti-social path. Chucky has never lost his path. He remains steadfastly anti-freedom and anti-social.
Tom says
I missed the part where he called for new elections in Gaza.
James Lincoln says
How long would Israel last if Schumer were its Prime Minister?
That is the question.
